![]() John M. Haupert, FACHE John M. Haupert began his tenure as President and CEO on Oct. 3, 2011. Prior to coming to Grady, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas, Texas. In his role as COO, John oversaw the operation of Parkland Memorial Hospital, Parkland’s 11 Community Oriented Primary Care Centers, 11 school based clinics, a homeless mobile health program, the specialty outpatient clinics at Parkland and the health care delivery for the Dallas County jail system. A native of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, he is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Health Care Administration. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trinity. His career in healthcare management began at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in 1992 where he served as Administrative Resident. In 1993, he was named a Vice President for Methodist Dallas Medical Center. In September 2000 he was appointed President of Methodist Charlton Medical Center. In August 2003 he was named Executive Vice President for Corporate Services and Business Development for Methodist Health System and in October 2006 he left the Methodist Health System to become the Chief Operating Officer at Parkland. Haupert is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and recipient of the ACHE Regent’s Leadership Award. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CareFlite, a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Hospital Association Political Action Committee, a delegate to Regional Policy Board 7 of the American Hospital Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Parish Episcopal School in Dallas and has served in numerous leadership positions with several Dallas area community organizations. |

![]() Chief Operating Officer Mark Chastang has more than 25 years of experience in senior management healthcare administration and comes to Grady from the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he served as Vice President of Operations and Transplant Services. He is the former CEO of Ohio’s University of Toledo Medical Center and once served as assistant director at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. At 23, Chastang began his career as executive director of a rural 50 bed hospital in Mississippi, making him the nation’s youngest hospital CEO at the time. Chastang is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of American Hospital Association’s regional policy board and a member of the National Association of Health Service Executives. A graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, Chastang earned his master’s degree in business administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta and received a master’s in public administration/health care administration from the University of Kansas. | |
![]() Executive Vice President / Operations Denise Williams joins Grady as Executive Vice President of Operations. Williams was formerly senior vice president of Community Hospital Management Services for American Healthcare Solutions in Pittsburgh, Penn. She spent five years as president and CEO of Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Salem, N.J., where she administered direction and operational matters for the hospital and its affiliated organizations. Williams was also president and CEO of Roseland Community Hospital Association in Chicago, Ill. for 11 years, and has served as administrator for several healthcare organizations in Indiana and Virginia. She has served on a vast number of boards and organizations and has received numerous awards and recognitions, including "25 Chicagoans Who Are Making a Difference," published in Crane's Chicago Business, "Emerging Leaders in Healthcare" from Korn Ferry International and "Young Healthcare Executive of the Year" from the American College of Healthcare Executives.

![]() President / Grady Health Foundation Lisa Borders is President of the Grady Health Foundation. The Grady Health Foundation is a philanthropic institution whose mission it is to maximize donations for the benefit of the health system while upholding public accountability and institutional integrity. As President, Borders will help lead the Greater Grady capital campaign and guide the system’s fund-raising efforts during the most important period of Grady’s history. Formerly, Borders served as President of the Atlanta City Council from Aug. 10, 2004 until Jan. 1, 2010. Borders was elected in a citywide special election on Aug. 10, 2004. She was re-elected by an overwhelming margin in 2005’s normal citywide election cycle. Her duties included presiding over Council meetings, appointing committee chairs and participants for Council and maintaining relationships with the Executive branch of government. Her community initiatives included increasing the availability of affordable housing, uncovering transportation solutions to address our region’s traffic challenges and promoting neighborhood safety and preservation. Formerly, Borders was CEO of LMB LLC, a consulting company advising clients on community reinvestment, external affairs, marketing and communications. Borders also served as a Senior Vice President of Marketing and External Affairs with Cousins Properties Incorporated, an Atlanta-based Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).
Borders has worked in her community primarily focusing on family issues in the areas of education, healthcare and housing. She serves as a trustee at the Westminster Schools, a board member at Clark Atlanta University. She is a member of Leadership Georgia and recruits and interviews students for her alma mater, Duke University, where she also serves on the Board of Visitors. She has recently resigned from the boards of Saint Joseph’s Healthcare System Research, Atlanta, the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, Teach For America, Great Schools Atlanta and The Salvation Army in an effort to devote time to the City. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University (Durham, NC) and a Masters of Science in Health Administration from the University of Colorado (Denver, CO). |

![]() Chief Information Officer Deborah Cancilla served the last 14 years at the Erie County Medical Center, Corp. (ECMC) in Buffalo, N.Y. in various capacities in the IT department, including seven years as CIO. During her tenure at ECMC, Cancilla was recognized as a leading expert in health information technology. Through her efforts, the department received a first place institutional ranking for excellence in service and support, and she positioned ECMC within the top 10 percent of national healthcare systems for use of technology and clinical systems. She also played a lead role in development of the WNYHealthenet RHIO (regional health information office) for sharing patient clinical and financial data. Most recently, in her SVP, CIO role at Grady Health System, Cancilla has completed a wholesale replacement of the Health System’s network, transitioned the facility to Voip, updated the desktop computing platform, and completed installation of EPIC’s clinical and revenue software in a big bang go-live. Grady now is positioned with few facilities nationwide who have achieved HIMSS level 6 recognition. Cancilla also implemented a wireless network and Internet café at ECMC, facilitated a major PBX upgrade and implemented a bar code and wireless transmission technology on nursing units for EKG, bedside medication administration and Alaris pump updates to assist with proper patient identification and safety. Cancilla has worked in the banking industry and for the Internal Revenue Service. She earned a master's degree in global business and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, both from Daemen College in Buffalo. |

![]() Senior Vice President / Planning and Marketing Lindsay Caulfield joined the executive team in January 2012. Before coming to Grady, Caulfield served as Executive Vice President at the Atlanta office of global public relations agency Cohn & Wolfe. Her work there included developing and leading fully integrated marketing communications programs, public relations initiatives and strategic planning for Fortune 500 companies as well as several local brands. Caulfield received a Bachelor of Science in English from Northeastern University in Boston and earned a Master of Science in Health Communication from Tufts University School of Medicine. | |
![]() Senior Vice President / Operations Sue Green joins Grady as a Senior Vice President of Operations. Green has service line responsibility for oncology, cardiology, mental health services, and the developing Neuroscience Center at Grady. Rehabilitation, the sickle cell program and respiratory services are also under her direction. She joined Grady from St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System – The Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. Green has a BSN in nursing from the University of Delaware, an MSW from the University of Houston, and an MBA from Rice University. She is certified by the University of Michigan, School of Engineering in Lean Management in Healthcare, a performance improvement methodology pioneered by Toyota. She is a member of both FMHA and ACHE. Green has experience in developing new and profitable programs. She has led large change initiatives including a charge capture program that netted $8M. She has started and operated a centralized call center for two organizations. She has worked with clinical areas and also managed the revenue cycle and the supply chain in her last position. She has extensive experience with benchmarking and operations analysis. |

![]() Deputy Senior Vice President / Medical Affairs Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, is the Deputy Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief of Emergency Medicine for the Grady Health System and Vice-Chairman for Grady Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Emory University. A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Haley holds degrees from Brown University and the Universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan. Dr. Haley is Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Physician Executives. He is a member of the IOM Committee on Health and Insurance Status. Dr. Haley has several honors and awards including the Atlanta Business Chronicles’ Healthcare Heroes and "Up and Comers Awards", Georgia Trend Magazine’s "40 Leaders Under 40" and Georgia Association of Physician Assistants Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Haley volunteers with Leadership Georgia, Leadership Atlanta, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, Camp Twin Lakes, Girls on the Run Inc., the Junior League of Atlanta Community Advisory Board, the Griffith Leadership Center and a member of the Omega Psi Phi and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternities. |
![]() Deputy Senior Vice President / Medical Affairs Kelvin J. Holloway is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine, and Deputy Senior Vice President/Deputy Chief of Staff of Medical Affairs at Grady Health System. Major responsibilities in this role include leadership and direction of the organization’s performance improvement/patient safety efforts and the identification of opportunities to enhance patient outcomes through the proactive evaluation and transformation of processes and systems. Dr. Holloway is a native Atlantan and a product of the Atlanta Public School System. He completed his undergraduate work at Georgia Institute of Technology and received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency training in Pediatrics in 1981 and his fellowship in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in 1983. Following his residency training, Dr. Holloway served as an instructor of Pediatrics’ at Howard University. He went on to private practice in the metropolitan Atlanta area (DeKalb County) for seven years, prior to joining Morehouse School of Medicine as a full-time faculty member. He received his M.B.A. degree from Kennesaw State University in 2003. Dr. Holloway is a member of several boards, including the Southeastern Chapter of the American Lung Association, National Center for Healthy Housing, Howard University Medical Alumni Association, Atlanta Children’s Shelter and the Coalition for a Healthy and Responsible Georgia (CHARGE). He is the current chair of the Allergy, Asthma and Immunology section of the National Medical Association. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, including recognition as one of America’s Leading Physicians by Black Enterprise Magazine in 2003 and 2008, featured in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Who’s Who in Atlanta Health Care, induction in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and received the Project Catalyst Service Award from the City of Atlanta. He is a member of various national and local professional organizations, including the American College of Physician Executives, National Association of Public Hospitals, the Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, National Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association. Hicks brings more than a decade of experience in public policy to the health system, including work at the local, state and federal levels. He most recently served as Associate Legislative Director for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia. In addition, Hicks managed public affairs efforts and special projects for the organization. Earlier in his career, Hicks worked on social services and healthcare matters for United States Senator Zell Miller. He also served as a healthcare provider, working as an emergency medical technician throughout and after college. Hicks is a graduate of Emory University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. | |
![]() Vice President / Patient Satisfaction Raven Carter is the Vice President of Patient Satisfaction where she has service line responsibility for the Burn Center, Telecommunications, and Patient Satisfaction and Customer Service. Prior to her current role, she completed a two year Administrative Fellowship Program at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Ga. Before joining Emory Healthcare, Carter was a Manager and Team Lead for the Tissue Division of DCI Donor Services (DCIDS), the nonprofit, independent organ and tissue donor network of Dialysis Clinic, Inc. in Nashville, Tenn. Carter has a BS in Biology from Ohio State University and an MBA from Tulane University. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). |
